  many ancients including confucious and lao tzu took opposing views about this subject and their arguments are fascinating to read.

  their arguments are nearly 2,500 years old.

  the greeks also lively debated this question.. of course, as dubs (and in fact, in most christian faiths) we were taught that man was born inherently evil, and the quest is to overcome that and work towards the good.

  Sorry, sf, I guess we were trying to answer farkel's question. Here's sf's question:

  "Are humans, born with congenital birth defects, born 'good' (perfect) or 'bad' (evil)?

  Would ANYTHING be 'able', as opposed to DISabled, change this...either way? If so, what? "

  I don't think the original question equated good with perfection. Again, here's the clip from Farkel's original post:

  "It's the "tendency" to be either good or not good from birth that I'm interested in debating."

  I don't see that congenital defects enter into that discussion at all. Are you suggesting that physical perfection correlates with "good" deeds?

  The locking of threads.

  it seems like there is a little fire starting to burn here on the subject of locking threads.

  iv been on this board a long time and on average have only seen about one out of every 200 threads locked.

  those who have their threads locked take it very personal, that's understandable.

  Actually, I think telling someone their head is up their ass is rude and inappropriate, no matter how wrong they are. If they are slightly wrong, talk nicely and they may see it, talk disrespectfully and they won't. Unfortunately, some people are expecting to be told that, so they seem to hear it without it being said.

  Besides, teej, if their head is waaayyy up their ass, they won't be able to hear you - so why bother?
